The American Music Awards are pretty much a clusterfuck.
Sorry, Dick Clark but it has to be said. Between, the artists way past their prime performing (btw, I hate medleys) and acts who deserved to win last year winning this year — without having an album out (talking to you, Kanye), it’s no wonder I forgot the Jimmy Kimmel-hosted affair was even on.
That being said, here are the five three things that I HEARTED about last night’s show… and three things that actually made wish I hadn’t turned it on an hour after the show started (thanks, Alyson):
LOVED:
1. Kanye West. Need I say more? The “super famous alien” touched down rocking that fresh new Pastelle jacket (not) and performed a half-hearted version of “Heartless” (see below). He also won some awards or something.
2. Jimmy Kimmel. I don;t know how this dude went from The Man Show to having his own talk show, but God love him he doesn’t give a shit… about anyone. Not to mention he fucked Ben Affleck.His opening monologue vicious and great. Or so I here.
3. The ladies. For what it is worth, this year’s AMAs didn’t disappoint on eye candy. My personal faves were Beyonce (seen above) and Nicole Scherzinger (seen below).
HATED:
1. Alicia Keys. Damn, your fine ass. You know I love you until… you do dumb ish like this. First off, what was up with the Bollywood costume. As an Indian colleague of mine said, “So, it’s not enough that she’s got a foot in the black community AND the white community… She’s gotta take steps over the brown line now too?!?!” LOL. Then you follow up with the mash-up performance of “Superwoman” (watch below). I barely tolerate this song in its original incarnation but now you add Dana and opera star Kathleen Battle. Seriously, though? Seriously!
2. Bogus Award Winners. Nothing more needs to be said about that.
3. Scheduling. The show used to air during the week, so why did it move to Sunday? And why last night? It aired against the Entourage season finale. WTF?
