Kanye has been acting a “stan” towards one artist particular and it isn’t big bro Jigga. In fact, it’s a snowy-haired Brit named Mr. Hudson whom Ye’s been gushing over, going as far to say, “I believe Mr. Hudson has the potential to be bigger than me, to be one of the most important artists of his generation.”

So naturally, we’ve awaited evidence to support such lofty remarks (even from Kanye) and the intent of the just-released collabo between the two homeslices, “Supernova,” (listen below) seems to be just that.

Hudson comes off as a Chris Martin-y type, in the instances where he doesn’t sound like his balls are still to drop. Not to say dude is isn’t impressive — his voices elevates precisely as he moves from sarcasm to sincerity. So there are hints of that potential Kanye speaks of.

The problem is ‘Ye himself, actually. Going with the whole “Supernova”/blasting off theme, he actually fails to do so himself. The superficiality of overused autotune deflates much of his raw emotion. And then there’s the problem of West basically swagger jackin’ the track — by the end of it, Hudson seems like the feature.

That might be understandable considering what Kanye had to say about Huds even more recently. “[He] has the potential to annihilate me, and I will do everything to help him do that,” West said.

Off of “Supernova” alone — and this one song is all we really have to go by thus far — perhaps ‘Ye just needs to keep out of his homey’s way. He’s already done enough by making us even check for him — and producing his next album, Straight No Chaser. Or maybe ‘Ye is just being wary of that impending annihilation.

What are your thoughts on “Supernova”?
