Heavy D.’s latest effort “Vibes” is a throw back to chilled out roots reggae music of the ’60s and ’70s. In the vain of his forefather’s Lee “Scratch” Perry, The Walers (both Bob Marley and Peter Tosh), Coxsone Dodd and many others, Heavy pays much respect. But Heavy’s vibe is curated for the post ska, post hip hop crowd who know where to hang out in modern day Jamaica and still get their Red Stripe on. “Vibes”show off Heavy’s Jamaican baritone while ska talking over simplistic acoustic sounds. Standout tracks like “Long Distance Girlfriend” and “Delilah” are about women and love which are the types of songs fans love from Heavy. Not to sound cliche, but “Vibes” is really for the grown and sexy. Check it out on itunes.
