Body of Lies
Body of Lies
Ridley Scott continued his long, slow march towards Hollywood hack-dom with this utterly impersonal–and ridiculously implausible–thriller in which a shouty Leo DiCaprio and a fat Russell Crowe repeatedly argue how to wage their spy games in a post-Iraq War Middle East. In between random bursts of chaotic action, Leo makes goo-goo eyes at a local nurse and even gets invited over to her house for an awkward dinner party that seems to last forever. Here’s a clue Ridley: when your supposedly serious spy story is funnier than this year’s actual spy comedy (the June blockbuster Get Smart), you know you’re doing something very, very wrong.
