Witless Protection
Witless Protection
It would be one thing if this star vehicle for redneck comic Larry the Cable Guy were simply dumb and crude. But Witless Protection is also astonishingly racist, particularly for a film that somehow got a nationwide release via a semi-major studio (in this case, Lionsgate). One of the film’s big comic set-pieces finds the good ol’ boy hero mercilessly mocking a Middle Eastern hotel owner, whom he also threatens to report to Homeland Security. Larry would like us to believe that he’s speaking for the voice of “real America”–as Sarah Palin put it–but if this is the sort of thing real Americans are supposed to find hilarious, remind me to see about applying for Canadian citizenship.
