With the success of the Notorious biopic of Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls, Hollywood is looking for the next box office bonanza.
Hip-Hop pioneers Run-DMC will have their story made into a major motion picture. Cheo Hodari Coker, co-writer of Notorious, has been tapped to take the Hollis, Queens trio’s rags to riches tale to the silver screen. Coker will adapt Bill Adler’s tome Tougher Than Leather: The Rise of Run-DMC. The rap group, who will soon be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, rose to the top of the charts with hits like “Walk This Way”, “My Adidas” and “It’s Tricky”, they helped put hip hop on the pop culture map and then in 2002 Jam Master Jay was murdered in his studio — his killer has never been found. A great musical story of the American Dream fit for the theater.
