Halloween doesn’t always have to be about tootsie rolls and candy corn. If you’re having a party this weekend and you want a themed drink to serve with all the other “spirits,” than look no further than limited-edition line of Emily the Strange soda.
Based on Rob Reger’s popular anti-cool character, the soda line represents a collaboration between Jones Soda Co. and Dark Horse Comics. The six special-edition Emily art labels have been created for the sodas and only 600 six-bottle packs of each of the six themes will be available, just in time for Halloween. These special-edition sodas, which come in Strawberry Lime, Pure Cane Cola and Cream Soda, will only be available at Jones Soda Co. The other Dark Horse comic featured in the program will be Eric Powell’s The Goon, which will launch with the soda line.
The good folks at Jones were kind enough to send us a six-pack and here are a few thoughts from the peanut gallery:
There’s something quaint and nostalgic about drinking ungodly colored sodas out of glass bottles.
A weak, Robitussin-like syrup in a color that could have been way cooler. I heard no gratifying ‘PSSSST’ when I opened the bottle and the anticipated juicy tartness seemed to be replaced by a slimy bitterness.
I love strawberry soda… it’s old fashioned and it’s strawberry-licious.
The Pure Cane Cola was just like Coke… only not quite as sweet. So, it was like all the caffeine without all the sugar.
But who cares what we think? Go out and try some of the Emily the Strange Jones Sodas for yourself.
