After decades of arcane-ass non problem solving legislation of Nelson A. Rockefeller (a dude so old that he LATER went on to serve under Gerald Ford as his VP) New York has (finally) decided to dismantle most of what remains of the racist, classist, expensive and ineffective laws—namely repealing mandatory minimums for first time offenders and lower level drug felons.
Now judges can actually “judge” on a case by case basis and New Yorkers can feel slightly less like the city is trying to ragekill them with the blood-boiling asinine-ness of the impending subway fare hike.
