This is the way the world ends in The Road
Quite possibly the bleakest novel ever written, Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book The Road follows a father and son as they travel through a post-apocalyptic America, avoiding cannibals, thieves and other scavangers. Unrelentingly depressing on the page, a film version was always going to be a tough sell, but based on this early trailer, it looks like director John Hillcoat has been able to create a world that’s just as desloate as the one McCarthy described. The movie stars Viggo Mortensen and newcomer Kodie Smit-McPhee as the father and son and the supporting players include Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall and The Wire‘s Michael K. Williams.
