Martin Scorsese and Leo DiCaprio team up for their fourth collabo, Shutter Island
Martin Scorsese’s last attempt at a psychological thriller was 1991′s Cape Fear, which featured a tatted-up Bobby De Niro chasing after Nick Nolte’s clean-cut family. One of the biggest commercial hits of the director’s career, Cape Fear has become more critically appreciated over the years, which may be why the newly-minted Best Director winner has decided to give the genre a second try with Shutter Island. Based on the novel by crime author Dennis Lehane, the 1950s-set Shutter Island follows a U.S. marshal (DiCaprio) who is tasked with investigating the disappearance of a young woman from a mental asylum located on the titular island. Since this is a Martin Scorsese picture, the director was able to wrangle an impressive ensemble that includes Michelle Williams, Patricia Clarkson, Sir Ben Kingsley and Mark Ruffalo. Look for Shutter Island to hit theaters on October 2, 2009…just in time for Halloween.
