Jamie Foxx channels Denzel Washington in his latest film.
Remember back in the ’90s when Denzel Washington kept churning out a series of middling, mediocre thrillers like Virtuosity, Fallen and The Bone Collector? Those movies always cast Washington as an upstanding public servant (usually a cop) who matches wits with a prolific serial killer. Based on the trailer, Jamie Foxx’s new film Law Abiding Citizen looks like a flick that Denzel never got around to making at that point in his career. The Oscar-winning actor plays a by-the-book prosecutor who takes on a high-profile case in which two burglars killed a little girl right in front of her father (300 star Gerard Butler). Over the pleas of the grieving dad, Foxx strikes a deal that gives the crooks a lighter sentence. Infuriated by this miscarriage of justice, Butler–who happens to be an ex-special ops agent–hatches an elaborate revenge plan that targets the bad guys…as well as Foxx. Viola Davis and Leslie Bibb co-star and director F. Gary Gray (who has a few solid thrillers under his belt, including The Negotiator) orchestrates the action from behind the camera. Look for Law Abiding Citizen in theaters on October 16.
