Imagine if you will.

It’s Friday afternoon, and the streets are a blaze of black. The glitterati city slicker photographers stand in a perfect 180° on the subway platforms, like a line of a coke a mirror shard. Staring through plated glass, fashionistas copulate wordplay of their favorite obsession. Its was that time of the year again, New York’s Fashion’s Night Out and most importantly, its fashion’s night out. Rule of thumb, wear something black… or black-like.

Sean “Diddy” Combs blasts party crunk jams on a sight-seeing bus through 34th Street, his Sean John insignia below his B&W Herb Ritts-inspired mug in a white tuxedo on the side. Sexy women in skimpy outfits dance as spectators take pictures from the sidewalks of the assiduous fashion Mecca. Rock band Train tunes their guitars and rocks out to their signature jingles like “Soul Sister” at a Tommy Hilfiger tailgate soiree. And despite the saturated Technicolor of fabric swimming in the wind and neon lights swirling amidst the night air, it’s like a neo-cosmopolitan funeral for club kids and nu-vogue wild wunderkinds.

The second annual credit card chewing monster extravaganza involving 1,200 retail galas around the megacity began with rendezvous at Macy’s. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, designers Michael Kors and Rachel Roy, performer Jennifer Lopez, and actor Neil Patrick Harris were among the millions of shoppers. There were others all over the city: Magic was made with a performance by turntable gizmos N.E.R.D. and a surprise pop-and-lock cameo by former R&B poster boy Chris Brown and a warped recital by the cast of the Broadway musical “Hair.” Not to mention, there were tons of celebrity appearances by Michael Bloomberg, Serena Williams, Metric, Tyrese and Ludacris, producer Ryan Leslie and Japanese designer Nigo to name a few.

It was a grand ole time in the city and here are some trends we’d expect to see in this fall:

Tailored Suits

The Ultramodern Military Jacket

Camel and Sequined Jeggings (however, not together)

Velvet Suits

Tailored Denim

Combat Boots

Plaids

Orange

Monk Straps

Flannels & Stripes

Dapper Debonair

Leather

So in the spirit of naming part of your personality, we decided it would be fun to review some exisiting alter egos and create a few new ones.

1. Beyonce
Alias: Sasha Fierce

There is no question that Beyonce reigns supreme in terms of female performers and it seems some of the confidence that reserves her the top spot can be credited to her alter ego. So in the spirit of naming part of your personality, we decided it would be fun to review some exisiting alter egos and create a few new ones.

1. Beyonce
Alias: Sasha Fierce

Fierce pronounced Fierrrrrccceee (add a snap for good measure) means furiously active or determined. There is no better way to describe Bey for all the hard work she puts in. Shasha sure knows how to work it and in case you forget, check the surname to be reminded of the FIRE that goes along with the FIERCE.

2. Bow Wow
Alias : Lamborghini Bow

If you have a GIANT question mark on your forehead you are not alone. When Chris Brown decided to start calling himself Lamborghini Brezzy, Mr. Wow, joined the Lambo club car frenzy and decided to follow suite. Thank goodness this never really caught on. Although, the speed racer thing might not be a bad look for Bow Wow. Since he is signed to young money and Drake is always talking about Phantoms, maybe they will sponsor car shows as a side hustle and Cam’ron can swing by with his mobile car wash to make sure the merchandise is nice and shiny.

3. Mary J Bleig
Alias: Brook-Lyn

Apparently MJB had an alter ego long before Ms. Fierce. Back in the day when Mary wanted to turn her swag on she called on her alias Brook-lyn (not to be confused with the borough). Brook-lyn is not only cocky, but she’s multi talented because this ego raps too. I’d like to see Brook-lyn have a rap battle with Lil’ Kim and find out who holds it down the best for BK. My money might be on Mary.

4. Keri Hilson
Alias: Regulator

Miss Keri bay -bay has earned herself the title of regulator. Not only is she one of the hottest artists out there but like her buddy Kanye, she has no problem speaking her mind and correcting other ladies in the game that think they are the only ones running things. From remixes calling out two female artists in particular, to tweets telling Lil mama she needs to STFD , this ATL shawty don’t play. In case you didn’t know Keri “Regulator” Hilson will most definitely let you know if you’re “turning her off”.

5. Ryan Leslie
Alias: Prez Les

This guy might give Obama a run for his money. Ryan Les for Prez is something this multifaceted artist often says at the beginning of his tracks and for good reason. From Harvard to the studio, he’s got politician written all over him. He was persuasive enough to skip his senior year of high school and gain acceptance to the current president’s law school alma marter and this smooth talker has used his gifts to win the public over via his musical selections. He can even play the sympathy card for voters by being the victim of a heart breaking scandal that involves a hot younger woman and Mr. Diddy himself. If you believe in the Amazing Music Political party you should vote Ryan “Prez Les” Leslie.

6. Lil Wayne
Alias: The Pharmacist

If Wayne ever decides to hang up the mic he’s got a promising career in pharmaceuticals. Thanks to his verse on the “Knuck if you buck” remix we know that he has an assortment of goods for your convenience such as ” that tussin, that scummy and that A dust, so pick your high, he will s-u-p-p-l-y and correct change is whats up” . Even though he didn’t manage to finish up his studies at the University of Houston I’m sure with his skill he could earn himself an honorary doctorate. I suggest any one in the music game that suspects they are going to catch cold should avoid the hospital and call this guy, because he is sure to have a remedy to relax your mind. SMH.

7. Kanye West
Alias: Dr. J/Mr. Hyde

Poor Kanye just can’t pick a side. Sometimes he’s friendly as can be and other times he’s taking away people’s awards (I wonder if his kryptonite is Henesy?). But it must be hard battling two personalities. One thing is for sure, no matter which Kanye you get, they are both uber talented and full of surprises. Kanye is like a weekend special, you get two for one, and in this recession who are we to argue with a bargain?

8. 50 cent
Alias: Fireman

The roof the roof is on FIRE! No worries, Just call ya boy 50. Since he’s not busy beefing with Game anymore and seems to have some personal experience with flames what better way to give back to the community than by putting out some scorchers with all that formula 50 vitamin water? Sounds like a win-win to me. The burn sights would have a nice grape smell and he could recycle the bottles after. 50 this is your chance to go green, and since you already have enough paper in your pocket it shouldn’t be problem.

9. John Legend
Alias: Professor

It seems that this legend could teach us a thing or two besides how to break up and make up over and over and over again. He has been know to profess the essence of non-committal relationships in such a convincing way that it would make you be proud to check the “its complicated box on your facebook” for him. Before his voice was being used as a sound track to Gap commercials and we were reminded that “we’re just Ordinary people”, John “Professor” Legend was at the University of Pennsylvania studying English Literate, no wonder he has such a way with words.

10. Usher
Alias: Lion Tamer

After Usher let the world know it was “my way” or the highway he has been breaking hearts ever since. In spite of the neon skullies, Usher is real ladies man. So much so that he was able to use his moves to lock down several older women like Chilli, Naiomi Camble and Tamika. Its clear that even though Mr. Moving Mountains could have his fair share of good looking younger ladies, he prefers the cougar crowd. In the world of celebrity dating, its a circus out there and since Usher is a pro his experience has earned him the title of Lion Tamer.

Normally being two faced is a bad thing, but for these celebs its an asset. There are many perks that come with fame and having two personalities is just another thing to add to the list. When you’re famous you can promote yourself as two people and no one will think you are crazy, they will applaud your genius. So my hats off to anyone who can convince millions of people that it is normal and even cool to be two people at the same time. Now thats talent.

Less is more for Ryan Leslie. He has a unique sound and a very cool style. The Harvard prodigy and modern Renaissance man (writer, producer, singer) dresses with ease and confidence. Leslie takes R&B classics and remixes it with verve and confidence, just like his look. He pairs tailored suits with simple dress shirts, v-neck t-shirts with leather jackets and always rocks oversized shades to punctuate his savvy style statement. It’s the perfect mix of simplicity and swagger. Check it:

‘WHERE YA BOSS AT??’ VALENTINE’S DAY is less than a week away…don’t act brand new!

Here are some tips to turn your V-Day morning into a sexy affair that can be done together.

HOW TO SHAVE YOUR MAN:

Get Steamy – Take a hot shower, the heat will open pores and soften stubble, making it easier to shave.

Heat things up – After you dry off, leave his face damp and massage shaving oil into his skin.

Ready, Set, Shave! – Once your man is ready to be shaved, start with his cheeks and slowly work your way down, leaving the chin area (where the beard is toughest) for last so it is properly softened. Remember to shave in the direction of hair growth to minimize irritation and guarantees smoothest results.

Be Gentle with Him – Rinse the razor often to clean the blade. Do not press the razor down too hard.

Cool Off – Finish the shave by rinsing his face with cool water to close pores. Pat, don’t rub, to dry the face.

Rub Down – Give him a soft, soothing face and shoulder massage using an oil-free moisturizer.

Just in case he doesn’t have any…You can hit up your local pharmacy for shaving oil. It leaves the skin feeling smoother, as oppose to a shaving gel.

Warning: Providing your man with a personalized babershop shave can lead to physical activity.

WOW (Word Of the Week)

Pontificate (v) – express one’s opinions in a way considered annoyingly pompous and dogmatic.

(Needless to say, Kanye comes come to mind.)

Mr. West is certainly known for pontificating on why he’s the better artist.

A couple days before this interview, Chanel Iman turned 18. As a fashion model on the rise, the busy teen spent the whole day working. “I flew in from Los Angeles and went straight to an Allure shoot,” she says perched in the dimly lit lounge of Manhattan’s downtown SoHo Grande Hotel. But this is not an occasion for sympathy. “I celebrated my birthday last night,” she reveals, “It was Britney Spears’s birthday party. My friends and I danced all night with Britney.”

Born in Atlanta, raised in Los Angeles and now living in New York City, Chanel Iman Robinson is part Korean, part African American. She is named after her mother’s favorite designer and an aunt, who is named after the legendary model. She has the looks, the cultural mix and the moniker that signify a modern fashionista.

The teenage Iman represents a new generation and proves that a lot can be accomplished in a short amount of time. Her runway debut for DKNY’s Fall 2006 season was a few months after her first “single beauty shot” in Teen magazine. Since then she’s walked for Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney and Diane Von Furstenberg, as well as virtually every other major designer worldwide. She is also the muse to Philip Lim and wears half of a puzzle-piece charm necklace that her mentor, Tyra Banks, gave her.

Not sure what to wear this New Years Eve? Check out these celebrity red carpet looks for inspiration. Here are some ideas of how to sparkle, shine and look fine to bring in ’09.

1. James Bond Style: A classic white dinner jacket is always a good choice. Note: Attention to detail will set you apart from everyone in the room. Especially if you are dancing on tables with a mike and bottle of Ciroc in your hands.

2. Get Your Shine: Metallic will keep you in the spotlight on New Year’s Eve. When the ball drops your outfit or accessories will light up the room. All eyes will be on you.

3. Tuxedo Dressing: Men, women and penquins know that classic black and white is a full proof way of looking good for New Years. Warning: Don’t get mad when some asks you to bring them another bottle of bubbly…just laugh and tell them you want one too.

4. Contrast: If tuxedos are not your thing, a shiny suit with contrasting lapel and tie works.

5: Not So Basic Black: Don’t get lost in the night in an all black outfit. Add a little sizzle, glitter or shine to stand out and be the life of the party.

6. Short and Sweet: Ladies…NO long award show gowns. Keep it short this New Years Eve. Legs, legs, legs. And please remember to moisturize!!! Don’t forget your pedi. Fierce high heels. You are good to go.

Joining DC’s own at the top of the class is Cleveland’s own—and Kanye-co-signed—KiD CuDi, who rocked the stage prior to Wale. Both have been singled out for their ability to infuse rap with fresh sounds—Wale bringing DC’s go-go into the fray and CuDi combining grungy alt-rock and pop sensibilities. And last night, that versatility was front and center. CuDi started his set with his feature from Kanye’s “Welcome To Heartbreak” before breaking into the soul-tinged “Is There Any Love?” from his expansive A Kid Named Cudi mixtape. Before wrapping up with his trademark single “Day N Nite,” Jim Jones hopped onstage for his own rendition, to everyone’s surprise.

“A new breed of diverse rappers is being ushered in and I’d like to think I’m one of the people spearheading that class,” said Wale on Tuesday December 9, prior to his show. A packed house for his hour-long headlining set at the Highline Ballroom—with the likes of Drake and The Cool Kids looking on—provided him with ample confirmation of his burgeoning rep.

After bouncing from his remake of Justice’s electronica anthem “D.A.N.C.E,” Wale went into choice cuts from his The Mixtape About Nothing, with Pusha T of the Clipse popping up for the remix of “Back In The Go Go.” Ryan Leslie also made a cameo, performing his R&B hit “Addiction.” Apparently, though, Wale’s top priority was reuniting the Roc. With Freeway coming out for “What We Do” and Young Chris for “No Better Love,” the diamonds were in the sky by the time Wale closed it out with “Roc Boys.”

Prior to the show, CuDi spoke of the ambitions of hip-hop’s new wave, saying, “Nobody wants to just be another artist taking up Billboard numbers. Everyone wants to have an impact.” Needless to say, both he and the Wale did just that on Tuesday.

From his run with 112 to his recently released solo project, Slim is no stranger to the spotlight. I recall my friend and I keeping 112 in decent rotation during the “Anywhere” craze, despite the fact that, being we were nine at the time, “sex” may as well have been a Super Nintendo game, joystick included… But, I digress. Slim’s solo debut, Love’s Crazy recently hit stores. And, if you have had a chance to cop it yet, fret not, I’ve got the rundown.

My LP critique method is simple. I listen to albums twice through. No skips allowed. Then, and only then, can I give my two cents.

I listened… So, here it is:

The Pros: If you spend sleepless nights feeling nostalgic about the 90′s, Love’s Crazy can satisfy your inability to let go. If you consider yourself a “Sucka for Love” (R.I.P. Danity Kane), Love’s Crazy can satisfy your inability to get real. If you appreciate a crooner that teeters between falsetto and soprano, Love’s Crazy could be your bread and butter this season… Oh, and I shan’t forget the album’s featured artists: Yung Berg, Yung Joc, Deezo, Big Boi, Ryan Leslie, and my girl Faith Evans. They were a good look.

Slim Feat. Ryan Leslie and Fabolous, “Good Lovin”:

The Cons: The intro made me uncomfortable, and it shouldn’t have; it was just Slim reciting Psalms 23. But, weird. Listen for yourself. If you are a club banger, sorry, “She Got That” is the only song with sufficient bump. I will bounce to the album’s hit single So Fly, but only because I am, not because it’s danceable.

The only other song I found noteworthy is “Heels On”… though I must say that I have a problem with my man knowing more about pumps and stilettos than I do.

- Madison Mobley
