Built with razor-precise strings, invigorating bongo runs, nimble-kneed bass and drama-dripped vocals (courtesy of Antony Hegarty, among others), DJ Andrew Butler’s disco-rich project steeps itself in Donna Summer cheese with an unapologetic knack for appreciation and reinvention. Like an aural eight ball, the songs make you feel sexy and a bit slutty. Hercules and Love Affair‘s self-titled debut is a refreshing does of intelligent songcraft.
