Dsquared Hit The Airwaves
Last week I got a chance to hang of with fashion designers Dean and Dan Caten, the creative duo behind lifestyle brand Dsquared2. While we sipped champagne and ate chocolate covered strawberries, the three of us chatted about their love for music and fashion.
Style In Stereo
We’re going to start out with our late-seventies, hip-hop-themed episode, which reflects our Spring 2009 collection. Our inspiration for the girls was Charlie’s Angels, and for the boys it was the early days of hip-hop. We’re also doing a recession-themed show that’s all about the music of the thirties…we had ourselves a little jazz moment!
Ipod Rock
We’ve actually been really inspired by Lady Gaga recently! We love her–she’s actually going to be a guest on our show. She’s known for being so dramatic, but when she came into the studio to tape, she was so focused and kept it totally real. We’re also really into anything electronic and futuristic: Kraftwerk., Gary Numan, and anything Thunderdome-inspired. Now that the eighties are back, some of our younger friends are finally getting into the music we’ve been listening to for years now!
Launch My Line
Yes! The show’s called Launch My Line, and we’re going to be the hosts and judges. Dan and Dean are getting real in America! We think it’s a way for the American market to learn who we are as designers–now, for the first time, they’ll be able to see us and hear us. Most people here think DSquared2 is all about jeans and T-shirts. Yes, that’s our bread and butter…but we can cut a beautiful jacket, too! We even had our factory back in Italy make our whole Fall 2009 collection in our size for us to wear on the series.
I Hope you all are ready for a lot more of Dean and Dan!
