As I’m sure many of you were glued to the Oscar’s red carpet last night, making your own judgement of who did it right and who just didn’t do it at all. Mr. Wilson gives us his take of the carpet’s highs and lows. Would you agree?
QUEEN LATIFAH
Can we say challenges??? This lovely buxom beauty navy blue gown was elegant and added just enough bling to light up her beautifully made up face. However, the queen might want to open up the cleavage and elongate some of the lines on her dress. Not a big hit and slightly below par.
TARAJI P. HENSON
Her smile lit up the evening and her dressed carried her like a star. The cascading flow of fabric flowed all the way to the floor as she dazzled with her creme vision of excellence. Oh, and the fit was perfect!
BEYONCE
This black number fit very well. The gold applique reminded me of The Stevie Wonder Collection. The Afro centric gold looked like it might have been pressed on with and iron and perhaps more appropriate for presenting at The Soul Train Awards.
ROBERT DOWNEY JR.
When describing metro-sexual the name Robert Downey Jr. falls far from that tree, but last night the ruffled brilliance was accentuated with his David August one button peak lapel and slanted flap pockets for a slight fashion forward touch of class. Well-done Robert.
SEAN PENN
Single breasted satin lapel is accented with matching black on black tie and shirt. Most importantly the blacks match. Flat on flat was the best choice for Sean making a statement of serious talent, and a man with a cause.
ALICIA KEYS
I love the color, style and details of her dress. The illusion of a wrap is a great detail. Alicia is a class act reflecting the new Ebony era in womens’ fashion. The fit was tastefully done, but that wig and it’s color threw it off. Subtle elegance would have been preferred on this one; pulling back the hair in it’s natural dark state would have been a nice compliment.
MICKEY ROURKE
Welcome back! You’ve been missed and your outfit reminded us that you do in fact march to a different beat of the drum. The white three-button notch tuxedo had just the right amount of satin on the jacket and pant. The black vest contrasted the bold creme and the chains added the rock n’ roll touch . I admire a man that has a “do you”, kind of Brad Pitt confidence. Let’s dub this one Pittishness and replace swagger.
BRAD PITT
Tastefully done. Single breasted two-button notch lapel vision of handsome, reflects a man’s man approach to fashion. Brad seems to wear his suits not allowing the fabric to dictate his movements. He’s in charge and commands attention with subtle elegance and strong lines.
DANIEL CRAIG
Daniel and his tailor have obviously become close friends because you just don’t get a fit like that with one fitting. The shoulders slope slightly as the jacket respects the slope. The taper redefines his work out efforts and shows you what he’s working with. Bravo!
KATE WINSLET
Four stars, by far my favorite dress of the evening. Not only was it very well tailored, but also the color and fit were spectacular. The off the shoulder, two tone, steel greay with the beaded train was perfect and originally done.
PENELOPE CRUZ
Well, what can I say… Perfect from head to toe. Her conservatism works as she’s subtly accented by diamonds, reflecting classic Hollywood glamour. The color worked for the evening as light colored gowns complemented the men’s darker tuxedos.
VIOLA DAVIS
A stunning talent, Viola’s gold halter-top with brocade was a hit! The color brought out the caramel skin tones and exposed her smooth well-sculpted back. A great choice for the red carpet and far from the norm. A chance that paid off with dividends of beauty.
