Former Prostitute Blogs For Russell Simmons

Thanks to Russell Simmons, my 15 minutes are back!

Ashley Dupre, a former high-priced, former prostitute who was at the center of the Elliot Spitzer scandal, taken up a new profession - blogging for Russell Simmons. The 23-year-old’s blog can be found at Simmons’s recently launched site, Global Grind, where he is serving as Editor-In-Chief. (Insert quip here).

Dupre met Simmons at a yoga studio in New York City.

“Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined befriending Russell Simmons while taking class at a yoga school I started going to in the past year” she writes on her first post, entitled “Surviving Spitizer.” “This school has been the safe haven for my self-study and spiritual development.”

Now, far it be it from me to sit a top mount GIANT and cast disdain or make snarky remarks on a former hooker trying to turn her life around a la Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, while Russell plays the part of Richard Gere.

You all know that’s just not my style.

If anything, I’ll willing to reach across the blogosphere (hand in sterile glove, of course) and give Dupre some e-props for taking time to post about how mastering the Lotus position in Simmons Yoga Co. has brought spirituality and balance to her life.

I mean, when you go from charging $4,000 an hour to bang out this dude to blogging for Global Grind, yoga’s probably the best thing you’ve got going for you.

But since “Every Rose Has Its Thorn“, and given the fact that Ashley Dupre was trying to break into the music business before she was getting her back blown out by a politician for the price of years worth of in-state college tuition, I’m guessing it’s only a matter of time before Russell builds a recording studio in the yoga workshop and the formerly “Most Famous Hooker In America,” records an album that takes her to the top of pop charts.

(Global Grind sounds like a better name for a record label multicultural workout DVD than a website. Someone call DJ Khaled and ask him to yell it for effect.)

Plus, I can’t imagine that it would be the first time a prostitute has a song on the charts.

Maybe Russell can get Ashley Dupre one of those 360 record deals that all of the kids are so into these days? He may not be in touch with the hip-hop community anymore, but he should have a some friends still in the music biz, right? If not, he can always get her a feature on his nieces’ MTV show, Daddy’s Girls.

Since Vanessa and Angela are around the same age as Ashley, I’m sure they’d have lots to discuss about being young, enterprising business women.
