Maxwell has been MIA for quite a while. In fact it was 2001 when he last dropped an album. R&B has seen a slew of successful newcomers since then, but Maxwell’s ethereal voice and grown-and-sexy elegance have been missing. Until now.
The smooth neo-soul man is returning with the first installment of a three album trilogy entitled BLACKsummers’night on July 7, 2009. BLACK (part one of the trilogy) reunites Maxwell with long-time collaborator Hod David and features dark but soulful material recorded live with a ten-piece A-list ensemble.
“Pretty Wings,” his first single, recaptures the subtle sophistication he is known for and the video is refreshingly sensual. The song chronicles the complexities of losing love and letting go. As Maxwell reveals, “It’s about the last relationship I had. How you meet the person of your dreams but at the wrong time.”
So without further ado, enjoy the return of Maxwell’s heartfelt falsetto amidst the sensual spectacle of silk sheets and sleeping beauties.
