Who’s Buying Music? No One, Apparently

By Aaron Richter, Editor Dec 3, 2008

Looks like this past week’s super Tuesday of album releases wasn’t so super after all. Four major artists dropped highly anticipated new records, and all four saw disappointing numbers. We’re sorry, ‘Ye, but your fans just got heartless.

1. Kanye West: 808s & Heartbreak — 450,000 copies sold
Less than half of what Graduation moved in its first week.

2. Taylor Swift: Fearless — 267,000
This album’s been out since Nov. 11 and can’t be stopped!

3. Guns N’ Roses: Chinese Democracy — 261,000
Haters be damned. This record slays. Believe.

4. Beyoncé: I Am…Sasha Fierce — 257,000
Check our cover.

5. Ludacris: Theater of the Mind — 213,000
Oh, sick burn.

6. The Killers: Day & Age — 193,000
With a lead single as bland as “Human,” what do you expect?

Here’s the Billboard article.
