Trailers of the Week: A Horror Trifecta

Trailers for three upcoming horror flicks H2, The Stepfather and Zombieland

Halloween is still four months away, but Hollywood is wasting no time getting trailers for the fall’s big horror releases into theaters and online.  Leading the pack is H2, Rob Zombie’s sequel to his 2007 reboot of the venerable horror franchise, originally launched by John Carpenter way back in 1978.  Zombie’s first take on Halloween offered up a new origin story for Michael Myers, but then stuck to the script of the original for much of the second half.  Reportedly H2 will be more of a “Rob Zombie film,” which means it could be really gory and cool like his sophomore effort The Devil’s Rejects or really gory and stupid like his debut feature House of 1000 Corpses.

Halloween isn’t the only old-school horror franchise returning to multiplexes this fall.  The 1987 shocker The Stepfather (which starred Terry O’Quinn in his pre-Lost days) has been given a 21st century makeover as well, with Nip/Tuck’s Dylan Walsh taking over the role of the title character, a seemingly nice guy who starts to terrorize his step-son (Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley) and his super-hot girlfriend (frequent Maxim pin-up Amber Heard).

If you’re unimpressed by the look of H2 and The Stepfather, perhaps Zombieland will be more your speed.  Owing more to Shaun of the Dead than Dawn of the Dead, this zombie comedy features Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin and Emma Stone as four lone human survivors in a world overrun by brain eaters.  Expect lots of over-the-top violence and silly one-liners.
