Trailer of the Week: Rudo y Cursi
Diego and Gael…together again.
It’s been eight years since Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna shared the screen together in their 2001 breakthrough art-house hit Y Tu Mama Tambien. Since that time, Bernal has dated Natalie Portman, worked with acclaimed directors like Pedro Almodovar and Michel Gondry and directed his first feature. Luna, meanwhile, had a son, directed a documentary and had roles in Milk, Mister Lonely and…Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. (To be fair, that movie did come with a great paycheck.) Now these actors, producing parters and off-screen friends are reuniting for the soccer comedy Rudo y Cursi, in which they play squabbling step-brothers pursuing careers in Mexico’s lucrative fubtol industry. The directorial debut of Carlos Cuaron (who co-wrote Y Tu Mama with his filmmaker brother Alfonso, the same guy who made Children of Men and the third Harry Potter flick), Rudo y Cursi made its American debut at Sundance earlier this year and arrives in theaters May 8.
